Edition 17 of We Are Makers is a 148 print journal about how people build real working lives around craft.
This issue was made on the road, travelling through the UK, Italy, Spain and the United States, spending time inside workshops, studios and small family businesses to record not just what people make, but how they got there.
On the cover: Euan Findlay, a young cooper from North Yorkshire, working in one of Britain’s oldest and least practised trades. Inside, readers will also meet a leather worker in Santa Fe, cameo engravers in Naples, a bookbinder in Glasgow, hat makers in Madrid, and more makers who depend on their work to make a living.
These are not trend pieces or studio portraits. Each story is our lived experience from days spent with the makers themselves, using long-form interviews and documentary photography so readers can read their stories and understand the paths that led them to this work.
The publication is made by a husband-and-wife team Kate & Jack, alongside a dedicated copywriter and a trusted designer. It is printed sustainably in the UK and designed to last.
This edition also continues MAKE IT, a 16-page section of practical advice and lessons from makers who’ve done the hard yards and are eager to share their findings with other creatives.
We Are Makers has built a loyal international readership because it treats craft as a way of life, not a lifestyle. Edition 17 continues that approach with one of the magazine’s most wide-ranging and human collections of stories to date.
Printed on premium uncoated stock with a thick, tactile cover.
Designed to be kept, revisited and passed on.
