Inside Issue 9:

The article on Nanban art focusses on one of the most interesting and beautiful aspects of this cultural encounter, which occurred in the 16th century, when the Portuguese first landed on Japanese shores.

In recent decades, the relationship between art and luxury has become more intense, moving from an essentially private setting to the public sphere. Foundations, exhibitions, boutiques, ephemeral installations and cyclical fashion shows have become places of celebration, where architecture assumes a role that goes far beyond what we normally attribute to it, as explained in the article “The Architectural Landscape of Luxury’.

Artur Pastor was an exceptionally talented photographer who photographed Portugal and its people like no other during the second half of the 20th century. The realism of the thousands of images he left us is offset by an unusual beauty, accentuated by the passage of time. The excellent text “Artur Pastor, Outwitting Fate” paints a picture of the man and photographer whose extensive work helps us better understand 20th-century Portugal.
